The future-proofing mini-series provides guidance on creating and implementing a future-proofing plan to help your solo practice survive and thrive no matter what the world throws at you. If tomorrow’s headlines announced a recession, a natural disaster or some other challenging event like the Covid-19 pandemic, what would the impact on your business be?

Future-proofing your business is one of the best things you can do to survive and thrive no matter what the world throws at you.
Thriving in tough times doesn’t mean reducing prices. It doesn’t mean avoiding the situation. It doesn’t mean burying your head in the sand, or crossing your fingers and hoping it goes away.
It means being proactive and empowered, rather than worried and hung up on external things you can’t control.
It means having a battle-tested future-proofing plan in place rather than drifting around aimlessly.
In this episode, I’m sharing 6-steps which will help you build a strong and resilient business regardless of what happens in the future.
You don’t have to implement all the steps. But they build on each other. Each one you add gives you a stronger future-proofing foundation.
In the next six episodes of the series, we’ll dive deeper into each of the steps. And by the way, all the episodes will be short as this one.
- Step 1 is building up a cash buffer. Dividing your funds into separate strategic buckets is the best strategy there is to help you stay afloat during difficult times. In part 2 of the series, I’ll show you the buckets I’m using.
- Step 2 is reducing costs. You don’t want to cut costs to the point where you start diminishing the value of your brand and limiting your capacity to deliver on your promises. You want to focus on the cost hotspots and on being strategic about how you spend your money. In part 3 of the series, you’ll learn how to cut costs without switching off the lights.
- Step 3 is outsourcing and automating to free up your time. Because you’re a one-woman or one-man show, working on the highest-impact revenue-generating tasks is key to achieving maximum returns. In part 4 you’ll learn how to use outsourcing and automating to free up your time, without breaking the bank.
- Step 4 is standing out from the crowd. People are more likely to seek out professionals they know, like, and trust during a recession. Everything will be more difficult and expensive until you are seen as one of the go-to experts in your category. In part five I share the proven five-step framework for becoming a sought-after expert in your category.
- Step 5 is a maniacal focus on your Wildly Important Goals. Setting your WIGs and creating the plans and support structures to carry them out is essential in any economic climate. It becomes critical in an unpredictable economic climate. In part six I’ll share the three key components of maintaining focus on your key goals.
- The final step of future-proofing your coaching practice is to build your own Success Team. This team should be comprised of trusted partners and collaborators who can provide expert guidance to help you get through difficult times. You should also think about creating a network of other solo practitioners who can serve as a sounding board for ideas and provide moral support. This network can be invaluable for staying motivated and inspired.
