Discover how Intuitive Eating and Body Image Health Coach Lisa Dahl, from Lisa Dahl Wellness, uses her own challenge to break her dieting shackles to help others do the same.
Her challenge with body image began when she was in elementary school when she was told she needed to go to “special” gym. From that point on, she was always chosen last for all group activities and had the belief that she was uncoordinated.
Her relationship with her body again took a negative turn as a freshman in high school where they were weighed and measured and hoping that her skipped breakfast would bring a better number on the scale as she looked at a see of girls in smaller bodies.
For the next 40 years, she spent countless time, money, and energy focusing on shrinking her body. Because she could diet “better” than most, she believed that she would be an amazing health and wellness coach specializing in weight loss for women when she shifted her career.
What she discovered was that she had her own disordered eating challenges. She then spent time healing her relationship with her body and food through Intuitive and mindful eating and now work as a non-diet health coach.
I believe women can be happy, healthy and confident at any size. – Lisa Dahl

Highlights of this episode:
Life is messy and magical filled with disappointment and discovery. – Kristi Nelson, Author of Wake Up Grateful
- Shift from judgment to curiosity; Judgement leaves you stuck in dieting and diet culture; curiosity allows you to ask what I am feeling and what do I need? Food is not always the answer.
- Create awareness: it is the key to change. Awareness supports asking questions βwhat I am feeling and what do I need?β When we notice our thoughts and actions, we learn to respond vs. react.
- Focus on Self-Compassion vs. Self-Esteem: Self-Esteem is based on comparison; you feel great when you think you are “better” than someone else and feel less than when you don’t measure up. This is what keeps many people stuck in dieting and diet culture. Self-Compassion allows you to offer yourself kindness and know that you are not alone and that everyone suffers. Self-Compassion is there all day, every day. Self-esteem is only your “friend” on the “good” days.
- Lisa’s dream clients and the outcomes she helps them get; the 5 components of her program and how it’s structured.
